Southport held to a draw in Derbyshire after a late goal denied the Sandgrounders from taking all three points against Alfreton as it finished 1-1.

A game that was rescheduled to a cold Tuesday night after being postponed on Saturday 29th November, it was no surprise thanks to poor pitch conditions that the first half lacked in quality and few chances were created.

Most notably for the Sandgrounders some good build up play from Ted Lavelle and Sonny Hilton resulted in a chance for the man returning from injury Arthur Gnahoua but he blazed his shot high and over the bar.

Chris Sze also had an effort that curled just past the post after a lovely pass from Luke Griffiths.

Southport broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute after a screamer from 25 yards out from Sonny Hilton, the goalkeeper managed to get a finger tip to it but couldn’t stop it from flying into the top left corner. A definite goal of the season contender.

After the goal Alfreton piled the pressure on with relentless long throw ins and corners and they finally got an equaliser through Max Hunt as he rifled one from the edge of the box through a sea of Southport bodies into the bottom corner.

Nevertheless, another good point on the road for the Port as this extended our unbeaten run to 10 games in all competitions as we move onto a busy festive period as we host Worksop at home this upcoming Saturday.
