Southport FC are delighted to confirm the three month loan signing of Tom Costello from Coventry City.

Tom joined Wigan aged 15 from Tranmere Rovers and was prolific for the Latics’ Under 18s and Under 23s sides.

Tom made his professional debut for Wigan in their 2-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town in the Papa John’s Trophy group stage in November 2021.

A hard-working and robust centre forward with a great attitude and work rate who enjoys scoring goals, Tom joined Coventry in July 2022 and linked up with the Under 23 squad to continue his development.
Caretaker Manager Andy Burgess said “We’re pleased to be able to add Tom to the squad and he will certainly improve our options at the top end of the pitch. Both myself and Morgs have good relationships with the youth coaches at Coventry and they speak highly of Tom’s ability and attitude, so we’re excited and looking forward to him being part of our group for the next three months.

He’s Liverpool born and bred so it’ll suit him that he’s back in the North West. He chose us ahead of a number of National League South clubs, so the appetite he has to be here and do well is clear.

We’re pleased to have him and thank Coventry City for their help in making it happen.

Chairman Ian Kyle added ” I have been really impressed with the efficiency Andy and Morgs have shown this week, they have been busy doing their homework recognising what we need and got their man and we look forward to seeing Tom in action”
