Southport FC Continues FA Trophy Journey With Tough Away Draw At Chesterfield

chesterfield

Getting an away draw in the FA Trophy is quite common for Southport, the record now stands at 68 away draws to 36 at home, but getting an away draw at the best Non League side in the country at present in Chesterfield is a tough ask.

Chesterfield have beaten League One leaders Portsmouth and League One side Leyton Orient in the FA Cup and have lost just twice all season in the league both away from home. They have won 9 and drawn 1 of their 10 home matches They have already amassed 53 points and scored 53 goals in their 21 games.

A daunting task for the travelling Sandgrounders but one to look forward to as we test ourselves against the best in front of a good travelling support.

One coach is already full and bookings are being taken for a second. The coach will leave Haig Avenue at 10.30 on Saturday. A good number are making the trip by train and car as well.

If there aren’t enough names for the second then the payments made will be refunded. Message Joe Bennet on 07974951637 to book on the coach.

It’s a long time since the sides last met, you have to go back to March 9th 1974 when as a Football League side we drew 1-1 at Haig Avenue with Andy Provan getting the goal. Andy had got the two in the 4-2 defeat in the game at Chesterfield which was played at Saltergate.
We did face each other on 57 occasions in the Football League.
