Southport FC players rush to rescue couple stuck in the mud on Crosby Beach
Southport FC players were pre-season training on Crosby Beach on the evening of the 3rd July when they noticed a man and a woman stuck in the deep mud.
The players rushed over a rescued the woman quickly. The emergency services were called and while they were responding the players spent ten minutes rescuing the man who was up to his waist in the mud.
Merseyside Fire And Rescue Service arrived at the scene and escorted the couple to Crosby Leisure Centre to check that they were OK.
A spokesperson for the Fire Service said...
"Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident on the evening of Monday, July 3rd near to Crosby Leisure Centre, Mariners Road, Blundellsands. Crews were alerted at 19.49 and two fire engines and the search and rescue team were on scene at 7.56pm
"This was two persons stuck in the mud, one affected individual was released prior to Fire Service attendance, and the other was released by members of the public. No injuries were reported, Fire Service personnel then escorted the individuals back to Crosby Leisure Centre. Crews left the scene at 8.16pm."
