Southport Lib Dems Deem Budget Negligent Over Pension Compensation Issue

The Labour Government’s first Budget has failed to give the thousands of women that missed out on their pensions the financial justice they deserve according to Southport Lib Dems.

Earlier this year, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) found the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) failed to adequately communicate changes to women's State Pension, and said affected women were owed compensation.

Erin Harvey, Southport Lib Dem parliamentary spokesperson, commented: “So many women have been fighting for years for recognition and compensation. While compensation for the Post Office and infected blood scandal victims was quite rightly announced in the Budget, WASPI women have been forgotten about.

"This is a scandal on a national level and many women in Southport have been impacted. The government needs to step in with a plan to get the women the compensation they are owed. The Lib Dems have long supported this campaign and these women urgently need the compensation they are entitled to.”
