Councilors demand action from United Utilities on Churchtown lights odour
Liberal Democrat Councillors for Marshside and Churchtown have written to the Chief Executive of United Utilities , Louise Beardmore, to demand action on the odour from the discharge chamber at the Cambridge Road traffic lights.
Councillors Mike Sammon, Leo Evans, John Dodd, Lauren Keith and Gareth Lloyd Johnson have written as a result of many complaints about the odour over several years from many residents and local businesses.
Mike Sammon, Councillor for Cambrdige Ward, commented: "We met with United Utilities a few months ago and while it was a useful meeting we were told that there has be:n a three year investigation into the problem and that as a result of work undertaken, the emissions have reduced by half and the odour has been minimised. It's clear from what residents and businesses are telling us that far from lessening, the odour is just as strong as ever."
Gareth Lloyd Johnson, Cllr for Meols Ward, said: "All in all we are not convinced that the odour issue has been minimised or reduced at all. The discharge chamber looks to be in poor condition with the access panel being taped on with gaps around it towards the bottom, which is where the odour appears to be coming from."
John Dodd, Cllr for Meols Ward, added: " We appreciate that there are many parts of the system that need investment and that there are competing priorities. But we need reassurances that this issue is being taken seriously and would like to know what the next steps are to keep residents informed and updated.
