Southport move into a play off spot with win at Guiseley
First half goals from Marcus Carver and Josh Hmami gave Southport the first away win of the season and a leap up into seventh place.
Two months ago Southport sat in 22nd place but the win tonight has seen a move into the play off places.
It was a routine win if there is such a thing.
Southport dominated the game but it was Guiseley who had the first chance when Bencherif headed over the bar.
Southport grew into the game and proceeded to dominate the remainder of the first half.
Marcus Carver opened the scoring on 14 minutes with a tap in for his 16th goal of the season.
It took until the 44th minute for the second goal to arrive and it was a peach of a strike from the edge of the area by Josh Hmami that put the cap on an excellent first half performance from The Sandgrounders.
Guiseley showed a bit more of a threat in the second half but the excellent Southport rear guard held firm.
Archer, Munro, Woods and Carver all went close to increasing the lead in the second period but Southport were content to see the game out.
The travelling Southport fans went home happy and it was a great following for a cold Tuesday evening when at one point it didn’t look as though the game would go ahead with Storm Barra posing a threat.
Southport now travel to Blyth on Saturday full of confidence and look to extend the unbeaten run to 11 games.
