Southport MP comment on the new Prime Minister

Damien Moore

Damien Moore, MP for Southport, said:
Today, following his meeting with the King, Rishi Sunak has become the Prime Minister of the United
Kingdom.

We face a set of profound challenges ahead as a country, from the continued impact Covid has had
on our NHS, to the global inflationary pressures fanned by Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine, which is
pushing up energy bills and the cost of living everywhere.

Yet it is my strongest belief that many of these same challenges offer new opportunities and a
chance to reclaim the future of our country. As the new Prime Minister said, his Government will
focus on delivering a stronger NHS, better schools, safer streets, control of our boarders, protection
of our environment, support of our armed forces, levelling up, and an economy that embraces the
opportunities of Brexit.

Hard decisions must be made, but I have complete faith in the leadership of Rishi Sunak to make the
right decisions for the good of the whole United Kingdom, and for our town, and to ensure that
those who need support, are given that support. The new Prime Minister has my full backing, and I
will continue to work hard in Parliament to help deliver our manifesto objectives.

My priority will always be to serve my constituents right across Southport, and so I will continue
doing all I can to increase our transport links, protect our local NHS, and to make a success of our
£38.5 million Town Deal.
