Southport MP Damien Moore supports the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill.
Damien Moore MP backs the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill for better mobile connectivity in Southport.
Mr. Moore recently met with representatives from Speed Up Britain to discuss the Government’s Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill, which will help deliver faster improvements to mobile connectivity, and would be of huge benefit to the residents of Southport, while boosting the UK’s economy.
The event was organised by Speed Up Britain, a cross-industry organisation working to deliver better mobile connectivity across the UK through targeted changes to the Electronic Communications Code.
Improved coverage of 4G and 5G is vital for local residents and businesses. A recent report by the Centre for Policy Studies, supported by Speed Up Britain, found that delays to the rollout of 5G could cost the UK over £40bn in lost economic output by 2027 and leave as many as 11 million households and businesses without vital digital connectivity.
Following the campaign’s calls for reform, the Government has brought forward the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill which includes changes to the Electronic Communications Code that will speed up the rollout of 4G and 5G coverage in Southport and across the country.
Mr. Moore is pleased to be supporting Speed Up Britain in backing the Bill, which will enable improvements to the UK’s mobile connectivity through the Shared Rural Network, which will deliver 4G coverage to 95% of the UK, and will allow next-generation 5G technology to happen more quickly.
Damien Moore, MP for Southport, said:“I am delighted to have recently met with representatives from Speed Up Britain in Parliament to support their campaign to improve mobile connectivity through the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill.“The pandemic has highlighted just how vital mobile connectivity is for the thousands of residents and businesses across Southport, and so it is right that we reform the Electronic Communications Code through this Bill to ensure that our local community has the digital connectivity it deserves. “This is a key priority for me, and I look forward to supporting the Bill in its remaining stages in order to help deliver the changes necessary to ensure that we can accelerate the roll out of improved mobile connectivity as quickly as possible.”The Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt, Chair of Speed Up Britain, said:“We are therefore thrilled that Mr. Moore has lent his support to Speed Up Britain and the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill, and look forward to working with him to deliver the changes that have the potential to bring significant social and economic benefit to the local area.”
