Southport MP Joins College Principal for Skills Hub Opening

Staff at the Trust have supported the development of a new £2.3m Clinical Skills Hub at Southport College which will create a stunning new learning environment for students. 

The state-of-the-art hub, which includes mock hospital wards, has been created thanks to funding from the Department for Education’s T-Level Capital Project.

The official opening was carried out by Southport MP Patrick Hurley alongside Principal Michelle Brabner and Vice Principal Stephen Musa. 

At the opening, Trust staff Amy Liptrot (Resuscitation Officer); Rachelle Alty (Head of Professional Practice Development for Nursing and Midwifery); and Gill Bjork (Practice Education Facilitator) who all support the College’s students during placements, were delighted to tour the new facility and speak with youngsters, giving a teaching session in the hub while they were there.

Carol Fowler, Deputy Director of Governance, said: “We have been delighted to have supported this development and helped in its final design. It's a fantastic new facility that will benefit the college, the students and the Trust.

“After recently winning the T-Level Partner Employer of the Year Award at the College, we are looking forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership with them to help us grow our own staff in the future.’’

College Principal Michelle Brabner said: “It’s a fantastic facility for our students. 

“Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals HS Trust has been really supporting.

“They have been working closely with us, sharing their insights and letting us know what our students need. They’ve been very impressed with our new wards.’’
