Southport MP supports help for households package

I know how tough things are for many people and businesses across our town, with global inflationary pressures caused by the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine squeezing savings and income.

The Government is listening, and I am pleased to support its introduction of a comprehensive support package. This includes a £150 council tax rebate for 80% of households, with a supplementary discretionary scheme, and a £400 grant for energy bills.

On top of this £550 worth of direct support for the majority of households, there is yet further direct payments available for pensioners, those in receipt of a disability benefit, and those on lower incomes, among others.

I recognise however that this £37 billion worth of support, whilst an immediate lifeline to many families, will only provide temporary relief. When the next Prime Minister takes office, I will urge them to immediately focus on passing the Energy Security Bill, dealing with rising fuel prices, and ensuring that the root cause of the global inflation we are seeing is brought under control.

I know that the Government will do everything it can to help, and would stress that it has created a useful website which contains all the information you need on the various support available.

I would encourage all my constituents to look over this page to see the further ways in which you can be supported:
