Southport Pier Pavillion will be open for business today
After yesterdays accident when a lorry smashed into Southport Pier the owners of the Pavillion at the end of the Pier commented on Facebook.
Following today’s extremely unfortunate event of the lorry collision into our pier we do remain open to the public. The bridge is three separate structures, so access is still open at the right hand gate. Our small train will still be running from halfway point (stairs to beach) to the pavilion.
Thank you for your patience and also well wishes. This is all we needed.
Sefton Council also issued a statement.
Southport Pier and the surrounding carriageway will remain temporarily closed while a safety inspection is carried out.
The spokesperson said: “Due to a collision by a HGV with the underside of Southport Pier earlier today (September 7th), both Marine Drive and Southport Pier have been temporarily closed.
“An assessment of the damage, structural stability of the Pier for both pedestrian and vehicular safety is now taking place and further updates will be provided in due course.
“We apologise for any delays this may cause and we would ask all motorists to use the Promenade (B5245) as a temporary diversion route.”
