Southport Pier update.Police clearing people off the structure for safety reasons.

Police were contacted at just before 1.20pm today, following reports a wagon had been in collision with Southport Pier.

"The vehicle is believed to have left the area following the incident. The driver has since been traced and is in the process of being spoken to by officers.

"There are no reports of anyone being injured and structural engineers are en-route to establish if any damage has been caused.

"There are road closures in place and motorists are advised to avoid the surrounding area.

"Enquiries into the collision are ongoing.

"Anyone with information can DM @MerPolCC or @MerPolTraffic quoting log 512 of 7th September."

Police officers at the scene say an engineer will have to come out to assess the structure , though no timeframe for this has been given.
