Southport Police Reunite Stolen Mountain Bike with Owner in just 30 minutes

Police Officers from Southport Neighbourhood Team 2, were on patrol when they spotted a man known to the police who was recently released from prison. Officers noticed that the man was in possession of a full suspension mountain bike and became suspicious at how he might have acquired this.

They stopped the man and examined the mountain bike to find a BIKE REGISTER sticker, which meant that the owner of the bike had previously attended one of our free bike register days.

All Police Officers and PCSO's are able to check the Bike Register database on their mobile devices, and checks enabled them to locate the owners details and to make contact with them. This confirmed the officers suspicions as the bike had been stolen from the owners place of work, some 30 minutes before the man was seen. The Officers were unaware of this at the time they stopped the man, but it was later confirmed by CCTV.

The offender was arrested on suspicion of theft of pedal cycle and the bike was reunited which its owner. The male suspect is awaiting a charging decision from CPS and has been bailed with conditions, which include not entering a large part of Southport town centre.
This proves the difference it can make to have your bike registered.
Please keep an eye out for our next Bike Register events, coming during the school holidays.
