Southport's Home-game Stumbles Continue with Defeat to Blyth Spartans

Southport’s poor home record was exposed once again, going down to a 3-2 defeat to Blyth Spartans who over the 90 minutes fully deserved the win.

It was a first half to forget for the Sandgrounders going in to the break 3-1 down.

The proud run of clean sheets lasted until the 7th minute when JJ Hooper opened the scoring anfter poor defensive work by the Southport backline.

Great work by Richie Bennett and Danny Lloyd ended with Lloyd finishing from close range to draws the scores level.

Hooper added a second with a fine shot from 25 yards that sailed in to the goal and it got worse in the 43rd minute when Bodenham scored from a corner to give the home side a mountain to climb in the second period.

It was 3-1 at half time in the home fixture and hopes were raised that there could be a repeat when Marcus Carver’s persistence saw him cross for Bennett to head home from close range.

Southport huffed and puffed but never really posed any serious goal threat after that and Blyth were able to see the game out fairly comfortably on a very disappointing home afternoon for the fans.
