Southport Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate Erin Harvey welcomes General Election so town can pick fresh voice for its future

Erin Harvey, the Southport Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate, has welcomed the announcement that the General Election is being held on 4th July.

“Finally Rishi Sunak has called an election after 14 years of Tory misrule and chaos. Our town’s Tory MP has not stood up for our area, voting unquestioningly with the government for all their disruptive economic policies as local residents have continued to feel the financial pinch paying more in their mortgages, heating and for their weekly shop. Everyone knows that the Tories can’t win in Southport and won’t be forming the next government.

“In the local elections last month the Lib Dems won the public vote. It’s clear that in Southport it’s a choice between Lib Dem and Labour. Nationally, Labour have already begun to break their promises and have no proper plan to reverse the nation’s fortunes. Locally, we can see first hand how Labour-run Sefton has let our town down with our pier still closed and failure to grasp opportunities to make Southport an attractive town to appeal to both tourists and businesses alike.

“I have moved back to Southport to raise my daughter and am invested in its future. I hope to offer a fresh voice, building on the work of our former independently minded Lib Dem MP John Pugh who served our town well for years and continues to hold the Council to account.

“Reviving our town centre is crucial. I will be fighting to scrap business rates, re-open our pier and unleash the green potential of our town.”
