Southport's Marcus Carver Vanarama National North Player Of The Month

Marcus Carver has scooped the Vanarama National League North Player Of The Month award for September.

September saw Southport move off the foot of the table after a poor start to the season and Marcus was on hand with five goals including the “perfect hat-trick” in the 4-1 win at King’s Lynn.

Congratulations Marcus on a very well deserved award and also to Jim Bentley who was runner up in the Manager award category.

Vanarama National League North Monthly Awards Winners – September

September saw no fewer than six managers leave their post in the Vanarama National League North.
But despite a brutal few weeks, a number of gaffers still had a month to remember regardless of the movement mayhem going on around them.

It was all-change across the division with Darlington, Spennymoor, Southport, Gloucester City, Curzon Ashton and King’s Lynn Town starting afresh.

But consistency has been key elsewhere – just ask the supporters down at Tamworth.
Andy Peaks is part of the furniture at The Lamb and after Southern League success last season, they are building brilliantly in their new surroundings.

They ended the month on top of the pile after three wins and a draw – they beat Chorley, Curzon Ashton and Peterborough Sports and also battled through two rounds of the FA Cup. They have the best defence in the division so far this season and even if you can slip a cigarette paper between the sides at the summit, they’re loving looking down on everyone else.

Jim Bentley was in the running for that award, but the panel decided it was one of the players who fired him into the nominations that should get a little recognition.

Marcus Carver is loving life under the new Southport manager and that is certainly showing after a strong September.

Bentley has worked wonders at Haig Avenue and helping get Carver’s shooting boots back on has transformed their season.

He has been a revelation since the former AFC Fylde boss showed up – scoring five goals in just four games including a superb hat-trick against King’s Lynn Town.

He earned special praise from his new boss and now the whole club is focused on this not being just a new manager bounce. They’re certainly heading in the right direction
