Southport shop to be reported to trading standards after selling fireworks to underage Police Cadets
In the run up to Bonfire Night, Police have teamed up with Trading Standards to carry out test purchases across #Sefton.
What’s a test purchase you ask?
This is when we use Police Cadets to go into shops who will try and purchase something that you must be over 18 to buy, in this case fireworks.
We carry out these operations to ensure that retailers are acting responsibly and to ultimately stop dangerous items being sold to underage, the vulnerable or people with criminal intent.
Earlier this week, we attended 8 retailers and pleasingly, the majority of them passed, however one in Southport did not. They will now be subject to a Trading Standards investigation.
We hope these operations help prevent ASB in the area and would encourage anyone that knows someone selling fireworks without a licence, to report them to us.
