Southport Show True Character in Nail-Biting Win Over Radcliffe

sfc crest badge

A fantastic win on the road for The Sandgrounders as the good run of results against Radcliffe this season continues.

Two deflected first half goals by Dylan Dwyer and Malakai Mckenzie in the 34th and 39th minutes saw the visitors gain a 2-0 lead before Anthony Dudley pulled one back in the 69th minute for Radcliffe to set up a nervy finish.

Radcliffe created a host of chances but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. We rode our luck at times and the recalled Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal pulled off four excellent saves to deny our hosts.

Renshaw had been brought back in after Everton recalled George Pickford from his loan back to Everton.

Danny Lloyd went close for Southport hitting the post late on which would have made it 3-1 but despite the home sides dominance and a bit of good frtune we held out to take all three points.

A night when the lads dug deep and showed some real character.

Given the other results on the night it was a very important three points and we go into Saturday’s FA Trophy Quarter Final game in great spirit.
