Southport slump to their 10th consecutive defeat going down 3-1 at Alfreton Town
Southport have suffered their 10th consecutive defeat after going down 3-1 at Alfreton Town this afternoon. The Port fell behind in the 1st minute and never recovered. Quansah scored the Southport goal in the 34th minute. It must be time for manager Watson to go before a tough away game at Spennymoor on Tuesday.
A lively first half that saw the home side take the lead after just 50 seconds and extend the lead on 17 minutes with a double from Lewis Salmon. The crosses and long throws in to the box were causing all sorts of problems at this stage.
Southport fought back well and on 34 minutes the efforts were rewarded when a Josh Hmami corner was nodded home from close range by Keenan Quansah.
The second half was an even affair and the visitors looked the most likely to score. Tyler Walton went closest hitting the post after great work and everyone thought the ball was going in the net but it was not to be.
Just when we thought we were on top a sucker punch hit in the 74th minute when a defensive calamity allowed Jordan Thewlis the chance to round the ‘keeper and slot home. Vain appeals for offside but nothing was given.
Another disappointing result but despite the early setbacks, the lads kept their heads up and stayed in the game until the third goal when the game petered out. The visitors did have a great chance in added time when Watson was denied by an excellent save from the home keeper, Willis.
