Southport thrashed 4-0 by Everton at Haig Avenue

A tough afternoon for The Sandgrounders going down to a 4-0 home defeat against a very impressive Everton Under 21 side.

An early penalty set the tone when Mills slotted home after a foul in the area by Jack Bainbridge, Mills went on to complete a hat-trick in the 32nd and 54th minute, the third goal a superb finish.

Southport did create a number of chances but the resolute Everton defence held firm and there was no way through for the home side.

Bainbridge, Archer, Watson and Archer all went close but it was not to be .

Late on in the second period Southport had three good chances in the space of a minute but the ball just wouldn’t find a way through and the visiting rearguard.

Another good workout for the lads before we go into the season proper next Saturday with the long trip to Boston United kick off 3pm
