Southport v Solihull Moors Preview. FA Trophy clash
Southport face Solihull Moors in Round Four of the FA Trophy on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
It is a repeat of the game in 2018-19 when Southport, with a much changed side went down 1-0 on an extremely wet afternoon. The game was played just two days before the big televised FA Cup tie against Tranmere which attracted a NL ground record attendance.
Southport’s line up that afternoon was : (I bet nobody could get them all)
Josh Tibbetts who actually made 9 Cup starts for the club, Oliver Crowley (1 Cup start). Stefan Mueller, Zehn Mohammed, Andy Parry, Paddy Lacey, Dom McHale (1 Cup start), Morgan Homson-Smith, Billy Whittle (2 Cup starts) Nkosilile Mapmosa (1 Cup start), Kris Owens (1 Cup start), the subs were Paul Ennis (1 Cup Sub Start) and Alex Russell ( 1 Cup Sub Start)
Solihull Moors FC is a merger between the former Solihull Borough and Moor Green football clubs. Southport played at Moor Green just the once in 2004/05 and won 3-2 on what was the best pitch we have ever seen a Southport match played on. It was a very late Lee Mulvaney goal that secured the three points and Southport completed the double winning 2-1 in the return fixture, Terry Fearns getting both goals.
Solihull sit in 9th place in Vanarama National with 36 points from 22 games. Former ‘Port player Callum Howe is in the Solihull squad but has been hampered by injury and hasn’t played recently.
Southport are in fantastic form unbeaten in 15 games in all competitions and this will be a big test for the squad but one they are relishing as they pit themselves against a team from the division above.
A reminder that this is a cup game and it’s all pay. The game will be decided on the day.
