charged

The police can confirm that a man has been charged after we received multiple reports that items had been stolen from vehicles in Southport.

On Thursday 9 April and Friday 10 April, it was reported that items including a mobile phone and wallet had been taken from cars in the Meols Cop area of the town.

Following inquiries, Mark Shaw, 53, of Park Avenue, in Southport, was arrested and has now been charged with two counts of theft from a motor vehicle, two counts of vehicle interference and fraud.

He has been remanded to appear at Wirral Magistrate’s Court today (Monday 20 April).

Chief Superintendent Karl Baldwin, who is Sefton Area Commander, said: “We understand the impact that theft can have on a victim and how it can also affect a local community, particularly when there are multiple reported incidents in the same area.

"We act on information we receive and would encourage people to come forward if they know anything about a burglary or theft where they live.

“We have lots of advice on how to keep your vehicle and belongings safe. You can read more on our website (Preventing car and vehicle theft | Crime Prevention | Merseyside Police) and find out different measures you can take to prevent falling victim to this type of offence.”
