Southport win again with victory at Spennymoor Town
Southport moved up to sixth place after another win on the road and whilst it wasn’t a pretty win it was certainly gritty.
The only goal of the game came in the 13th minute when Jack Bainbridge slotted home a through ball from Marcus Carver with an impressive finish.
Spennymoor looked a decent side but lacked a finish and Tony McMillan, preferred in goal to Cam Mason once again kept another clean sheet.
The game was lacking in clear cut chances but the home side did hit the post on 17 minutes and that was as close as it gets.
We don’t often get the rub of the green with refereeing decisions in the North East but the referee stood firm all night for both sides and whilst the home fans were less than impressed with his performance we can have no complaints.
Spennymoor looked a lively outfit moving the ball well but simply couldn’t break down the impressive Southport rearguard with Keenan Quansah once again putting in an outstanding performance.
A very satisfactory night for the small band of travelling fans whose journey home will be a lot sweeter following the win.
After four games on the road and 9 out of 12 points it has seen a remarkable turn round with a rise from 19th place to 6th. With five home games in a row coming up we will be looking to kep the tremendous run going.
It’s Buxton at home on Saturday when hopefully the Southport public will respond to the improved form and give Liam and the lads the backing they deserve.
