Southport Woman Assaulted in Broad Daylight: Suspect Arrested
A man has been charged after a woman was assaulted in Southport yesterday, Wednesday 15 April.
At around 11.50am a man approached a woman on Lord Street near Sainsburys and assaulted her. The woman shouted at the man to get off her before he fled towards the other side of Lord Street.
Officers who were nearby on foot patrol, were alerted to the incident by the woman, and spotted a man who was swiftly arrested on suspicion of common assault.
Deividas Ilginis, aged 44, of Lathom Road Southport, Sefton has been charged with assault by beating and remanded to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court today, Thursday 16 April.

“Merseyside Police recently introduced the Southport Town Centre Team and the launch of the Merseyside Anti-Social Behaviour Partnership to provide a faster and more effective policing response to incidents that cause fear or harm in our community.
“The team is an example of how we are tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in our town centres.
“If you have any information about this incident or any other crimes in Sefton please come forward. Similarly, if you work in the area and have any CCTV footage from yesterday morning of the incident please let us know.”
