Southport were beaten 5-1 by Scarborough Athletic in the Enterprise National League North on Saturday, August 29.

The match was goalless for the opening 15 minutes, but Scarborough took the lead in the 16th minute and quickly took control. Mo Fadera added a second in the 33rd minute before Jake Hull made it 3-0 shortly afterwards.

Southport’s defence looked vulnerable whenever the home side broke forward, and Scarborough could have extended their advantage before half-time.

Scarborough added a fourth four minutes into the second half through Rio Allan. Southport responded when Teddy Lavelle struck the post and Luke Griffiths followed up to score, although match listings recorded the goal as coming in the 51st minute.

Southport had a brief spell of pressure, but Harry Perritt came closest to scoring again when his header flashed narrowly wide of the post.

Allan scored his second and Scarborough’s fifth in the 84th minute. Solomon Honor then made two good saves to prevent the scoreline becoming heavier.

Southport’s afternoon ended when Luke Burgess was sent off in added time following an altercation with a Scarborough player.

Southport return to Haig Avenue on Monday, August 31, when Hereford visit for a 3pm kick-off.
