Southport reach Lancashire Challenge Trophy second round with 4-1 win at Garstang
Southport reached the second round of the Lancashire Challenge Trophy with a 4-1 win away to Garstang on Wednesday, September 23.
Rhys Healey put Southport ahead after nine minutes before Danny Lloyd doubled the lead in the 25th minute. Adam Moseley scored twice in the second half, in the 64th and 73rd minutes.
Garstang’s goal was the pick of the night, coming from a 40-yard lob over Southport goalkeeper Tony McMillan.
McMillan was making his 307th appearance for Southport, 18 years after making his debut for the club. He was replaced by Lewis Prescott after 57 minutes.
The attendance was 128, with Southport backed by a strong away following.
Southport’s starting line-up was McMillan, Teddy Lavelle, Kyle Jameson, Max Davies, Danny Lloyd, Malakai McKenzie, Perritt, Edwards, Flanagan, Cunningham and Healey. Prescott, Moseley, Beswick, Luke Burgess and Daniel Ogwuru came on, while Elliott Smith and Tom Cowan were unused substitutes.
The Sandgrounders return to league action at home to Spennymoor Town on Saturday, September 26, with a 3pm kick-off.
