Statement from Southport MP Damien Moore on the sad death of the Queen

It is difficult for me to put into words the level of shock I feel at the news that HM Queen Elizabeth II has passed away.

The Queen was a truly remarkable figure who personified those essential qualities of service, duty, and diligence.

Her Majesty dedicated herself to serving our country as monarch since 1952. Just this year she celebrated her Platinum Jubilee following seventy years on the throne, making The Queen the longest serving monarch in British history.

Over the summer, our town came together to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and some in our town still remember when Her Majesty visited Southport on April 14th, 1955, just three years into her reign.

I am sure everyone in Southport will join me in sending our condolences to the Royal Family.

The coming days will be spent remembering and celebrating The Queen’s reign. I would invite all Southport residents to come together during this period ahead of the state funeral.

Now The King takes on his role as the head of state in the United Kingdom, and in other realms and territories, as well as Head of the Commonwealth, and Defender of the Faith.

I know that The King will lead our nation through this period of change with the same dedication and commitment that Queen Elizabeth II so clearly displayed, and I know we all wish His Majesty well with this extraordinary responsibility.
