avanti

Officers received a report that an Avanti West Coast train had derailed at 6.15am this morning (3 November), close to Shap, Cumbria.

Thankfully, there have been no reported serious injuries, with four people treated on scene by the ambulance service and discharged. The 85 passengers have been safely escorted from the train.

The front carriage came off the tracks but remained upright. Emergency services have now stood down from the scene and RAIB (Rail Accident Investigation Branch) will be attending.

Chief Superintendent Sandra England said: “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our partner emergency services and Cumbria Police who responded swiftly throughout.”
