A company specialising in taxi insurance has given a welcome boost to Southport’s Salvation Army Christmas Appeal after relocating to new offices in the town centre.

Insure Taxi, which has moved to Leicester Street from Slaidburn industrial estate, has handed more than £500 of toys to the charity after its kind-hearted 50-strong workforce shopped for gifts suitable for young children and teenagers.

Branch director Karl Garcia, a father-of-two, said: “Our staff are local and we have been part of the Southport business community for around 15 years.

“There’s always something going on to raise money for charity, staff doing sponsored walks and swims that sort of thing, but this year more than ever we wanted to support families hard hit by the cost of living crisis.

“So we have pulled out all the stops for the Salvation Army and hope our support will help make a difference.”

The Shakespeare Street charity wants to ensure no local child will wake up on Christmas Day without a present. For the past few weeks residents have been urged to donate new and unwrapped toys.

Insure Taxi has handed over a taxi full of toys as well as 150 selection boxes and a donation from its parent company The County Group.

Founded in 2005, the company insures thousands of private and public taxis and traditional black cabs nationwide.

It plans to welcome more local sales and admin staff to its Southport office next year.

Karl added: “The taxi industry took a hit during the pandemic but has bounced back as the night economy has returned.

“We’re busy so it’s great to be in the heart of the town where customers can call in for advice. Our new office is next to shops and a few minutes from the railway station allowing us to support other businesses too.

“We look forward to welcoming several new members of staff in 2023.”
