Temporary road closures for the Visit of HRH Princess Royal Princess Anne

The Southport war memorial is 100 years old later this year, having been commissioned by Lord Earl of Derby in 1923. To commemorate this momentous occasion a re-dedication ceremony will take place in Southport on Friday 29th September in the presence of HRH Princess Royal Princess Anne, the first formal Royal visit to Southport since 1955. The event will include a parade of veterans, servicemen and women, army cadets and schoolchildren, accompanied by a marching band, there will be a drumhead service at the war memorial in London Street Square with VIPs attending the ceremony and afterwards a luncheon in The Atkinson. A commemorative plaque will be unveiled by HRH Princess Royal Princess Anne, who will be in attendance for the whole event.

The parade will form up in Victoria Park before heading out at around 11.15 hours onto Duke Street, along Lord Street to form up around the war memorial in London Street Square. The drumhead service which is expected to last around 20 minutes will take place after Princess Anne is seated in London Street Square. The parade will return to Victoria Park along the same route at around 13.15 hours. 

The following roads will be closed between 09.00 hours and 15.00 hours:

* Lord Street, between its junctions with Duke Street and St George’s Place

* London Street between its junctions with Glebe Place and London Street Square

* Nevill Street between its junctions with Stanley Street and Lord Street

* Lord Street service road between Lord Street and London Street on the south side of the monument

* Waverley Street – full length

* Garrick Parade – full length

The following road will be closed for short duration 11.10 hours until 11.25 hours and 13.30 hours until 13.45     hours approximately:

Duke Street, between its junctions with Rotten Row and Lord Street.

Parking Restrictions

3.1    It will be necessary, for the purposes of security, to remove obstructions for the parade and to provide temporary bus stops on Promenade, to restrict parking and loading on the following roads or part of roads, this will be done by the use of no waiting cones. Temporary parking orders will be introduced as described for each of the following roads during the event on 29th September 2023 between 07.00 hours and 15.00 hours:
