Tesco Express set for Southport Station entrance after Roman clothes store closes down.
The entrance to Southport Station is set to be transformed as the Roman fashion store has now closed down.
Planning permission has been granted by Sefton Council for the building to become a Tesco Express.
Tesco already operate two Express stores in the town centre one on Eastbank Street and on on Albert Road.
,Sefton Council Chief Planning Officer Derek McKenzie said
"This application affects a unit adjacent to the Lord Street Conservation Area and within the bufferzone of several non-designated heritage assets. However I do not consider the proposed shopfront will cause any significant detrimental impact to these assets. No concerns.
The new shop front incorporates sliding doors with colour coated aluminium frames. The design of the shop front is acceptable and no harm would be created to the street scene.
The proposal complies with the Local Plan policy EQ2 Design and ED2 Retail, Leisure and other Town Centre Uses and the SPD New Shop Fronts. The site is close to the Lord Street Conservation Area and within the buffer-zone of several non designated heritage assets.
The Conservation Officer considers that the proposed shopfront will not cause any significant detrimental impact to these assets. The proposal complies with the Local Plan NH12 Conservation Areas and NH9 Heritage Assets. The Highways Officer has no objections to the development.
