Thick fog blankets Southport and more to come

Thick fog is covering Southport this morning which is unusual for our town. Fog is not a common sight in Southport.

The Met office predicts that there is more to come.

Today:

Any fog slow to clear on Tuesday morning. A cloudy and largely dry day, with the odd bright spell developing at times. Turning breezier through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Remaining cloudy across northern areas with outbreaks of rain arriving towards dawn. A greater chance of some clear spells developing in the south. Remaining on the breezy side. Mostly frost-free. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Wednesday:

Bright spells in the south, but thicker cloud and some rain further north. This slowly spreading south through the day, the rain then dying out in the evening. Winds easing. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Largely settled through the week, but on the cloudy side with limited bright spells in the afternoon and patchy drizzle at times. A risk of morning fog under cloud breaks.

Saturday 18 Dec - Monday 27 Dec

Through this period, high pressure, already across southern areas, is expected to build further north, pushing the remaining wind and rain away. Here any rain will be light, giving a much drier second half to December for all and winds expected to be predominantly calm.

Although rather cloudy at first, cloud amounts should reduce through the period, especially in the south and southeast. Temperatures near average to start, and locally mild in the north, although they will tend to become colder in time for Christmas, especially in southern areas. As a result, the risk of frost and fog increases, the fog slow to clear through the mornings, and perhaps lasting all day in some places.
