Liverpool John Lennon Airport drop-off charge will rise to £7
The minimum charge for using Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s Express Drop Off and Pick Up car park will rise from £6 to £7 on Tuesday, 1 September.
The new fee will cover stays of up to 10 minutes. The same charge will apply to black cab drivers using the taxi rank outside the terminal, who typically pass the cost on to passengers as part of their fare.
The airport said the increase was being driven by higher business rates, energy costs, employer National Insurance contributions and minimum wage increases.
It said parking income was an important source of revenue, helping to offset rising operating costs and fund investment in “new and improved” passenger facilities. The airport is also working with airlines to expand its low-cost route network.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport said it was aware that some black cab drivers might decide not to work from the airport when the new charge begins, but did not expect disruption to passengers.
If there are not enough black cabs during busy periods, airport staff will help passengers find alternative ways to continue their journeys, it said.
Private hire drivers using the Express car park also typically pass the charge on to passengers, according to the airport.
Passengers who want to avoid the charge can use the separate free drop-off and pick-up car park. It allows stays of up to 20 minutes and is less than a 10-minute walk from the terminal.
