Merseyrail Achievement Awards shine a spotlight on outstanding colleague achievements

Colleagues from across Merseyrail came together on Thursday 22 October at the Delta Hotels by Marriott in Liverpool city centre for the 2026 Merseyrail Achievement Awards, an evening dedicated to recognising the outstanding people and teams who make a difference every day across the Merseyrail network.

This year's Motown-themed event celebrated excellence, dedication and achievement across the organisation, shining a spotlight on the colleagues whose hard work helps deliver an exceptional service for passengers and our communities.

The evening began with a special tribute to Sally Ralston BEM, who is retiring from her role as Head of Community and Engagement after a remarkable 35-year career in the rail industry. Sally's passion, commitment and lasting contribution to both the railway and the communities it serves were recognised as colleagues gathered to celebrate her achievements and wish her well for the future.

Among the night's award winners was Tony Hesketh, Station Retailer at New Brighton, who received the Customer Star Award. Uniquely, this award was decided by votes from Merseyrail passengers, recognising the positive impact Tony has made on customers through his dedication and service.

The Hill Dickinson Delivery Team was named Merseyrail Team of the Year, while Dan Beddows, Station Retailer at Liverpool Central, was awarded the prestigious Employee of the Year title.

Suzanne Grant, Merseyrail Interim Managing Director, said:

“The Merseyrail Achievement Awards are always such a special night. They give us the chance to step back and celebrate the everyday impact our people and teams have across Merseyrail, and to recognise the care, commitment and hard work that goes into what we do every day. I’m incredibly proud to see our colleagues receive that recognition.”

The success of the event was made possible through the efforts of colleagues from across the business, whose support helped make the evening such a memorable occasion.

Congratulations to all of this year's winners and finalists for their outstanding contributions, and we look forward to celebrating more success at next year's awards.
