Veterans in Southport Offered Support through Help For Heroes

Veterans and their families who live in Southport and the surrounding Sefton area, are invited to pop along to monthly drop-in sessions organised by Help for Heroes, to find out about the services the Charity offers.

The sessions are led by Nick Settle, who is the Community Builder for the Charity, on the third Tuesday of every month, at The Life Rooms Southport, from 10am – 4pm. Nick said: “What makes Help for Heroes unique is that we don’t just help veterans and their families with one area, but can support with physical health, mental health, wellbeing and welfare issues.

“We know that there are a number of veterans who have made Southport their home, and we want to let them know that we’re here if they need us. They can just pop along for a chat, no need to book in advance.”

It’s estimated that there are 10,800 veterans living in the Sefton area. The Charity supports veterans and their families from any branch of the UK military – regulars or reserves – irrespective of length or place of service, and locally embedded civilians who worked under the command of UK Armed Forces.

Nick added: “Veterans have a lot of skills and experience that can be beneficial to local communities. As well as letting veterans know about our services, I’m hoping to find one or two veterans who are interested in volunteering to help build local, resilient networks for veterans and their families, to make Southport a welcoming place for veterans.”
