Created through funding from the Liverpool City Region, its aim is to increase vastly the numbers of people who visit Sefton and the surrounding areas.
Features of the new site include an integrated booking service for accommodation, attractions, events and restaurants, plus interactive maps, guides and articles on many topics ranging from the stunning collections of art museums and galleries to recommendations on where to find the best Instagram locations!
Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said:
"Tourism is a massive part of Sefton's economy and each year we welcome thousands of people to our beautiful Borough to enjoy its many sights and sounds.
"From our world famous Southport Air Show to the iconic Iron Men, Sefton is a borough that has it all and I am delighted that thanks to this funding, we are able to upgrade our digital platform.
"The new VisitSouthport site not only provides the very best starting point for anyone visiting Sefton but an array of brand new and upgraded features mean it's perfect for our many partners and businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector to show case what they can offer."
Led by Growth Platform, Liverpool City Region's own growth company, the new VisitSouthport site is one of three tourism websites. The other two are for Liverpool and Wirral and they are all designed to attract millions of users each year and inspire visitors to stay, enjoy and spend money in the region’s world-class attractions.
Donna Howitt, chair of the website project board, said
“During the past decade Liverpool City Region has witnessed a dramatic rise in popularity as a visitor destination for overseas visitors, those on domestic trips as well as an increase in business trips.
"To build on this we are aiming to transform the region’s popularity as a more ‘year-round’ visitor destination and showcasing our unique assets and characteristics in the most effective way is a significant step towards this.
“The websites for Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral are the first touchpoint for most visitors, so it is vital we get this right in terms of navigation, engagement and content. We believe these sites will inspire visitors and make planning a trip to the region exciting and easy to use.”
