Weather warning from Merseyside Police (Southport)
The Met Office have taken the unusual step of issuing a country wide weather warning for high winds from Storm Isha, which is due to hit UK shores from 6:00pm Sunday and throughout Monday. An AMBER warning covers the north west coast.
Winds are currently at 29 - 30MPH in Southport with local forecasts of them increasing to over 40mph. The fear is that Storm Isha may bring gusts of over 90mph, which means there is a danger to life.
Current advice is to avoid travel during the storm where possible. Cyclists and motorcyclists should find alternative transport. Pedestrians should be aware of the risk of flying debris. Drivers of high sided vehicles should avoid costal routes, where possible and take care on the Formby bypass, etc.
Along with the high winds, heavy rain may lead to localised flooding so again, consider avoiding coastal routes.
Take time over the next few hours before 6:00pm (Sunday) to secure wheelie bins, garden furniture and other loose items, which may get blown into roads.
