Wet Weather Blamed for Surge in Sefton Road Collisions

With the wet weather over the past week we've seen an increase in the number of road traffic collisions reported on the roads of Sefton, and Merseyside as a whole.

Within the last week this has included at least two incidents reported to police where vehicles have come off the road on North End Lane, in the area known locally as "The Hightown Bends". In both incidents the cars have come to rest in drainage ditches that line the road. Fortunately in both incidents the occupants of the vehicles have been uninjured, though they have been checked over by our colleagues from North West Ambulance Service as a precaution.

 No other vehicles have been involved in either incident, and there is no police action being taken against either driver. Both incidents have resulted in significant disruption whilst emergency services have been in attendance and whilst the damaged vehicles have been recovered. Given close proximity of these collisions Sefton Council Highways Department have also been made aware of these incidents.

Sefton Neighbourhood Policing Teams encourage the drivers using the roads of Sefton drive with care and keep aware of the weather conditions whilst they're out and about. Wet weather, and the resultant wet road surfaces can double your stopping distances, and negatively effect your vehicle's handling and grip on the road. We're very fortunate neither of these recent incidents have resulted in the occupants of the vehicle coming to serious physical harm. Ultimately vehicles are replaceable, you and your loved ones are not.
