Woodlands Animal Sanctuary Near Southport Overwhelmed with Kittens as Kitten Season Begins

Kitten Season has certainly started with a bang for Woodlands Animal Sanctuary as they currently have 8 litters on the ground and a pregnant mum due in a couple of weeks.  Incredibly cute, you can certainly lose an hour easily just watching kittens!  But they are also very time consuming and expensive, especially when they are a hand rear litter.  Currently the animal charity has three litters who are needing to be hand reared and this is done by several committed, caring & experienced volunteers.  An around the clock process, hand rearing isn’t for the feint hearted, and neither is the shopping list that’s needed for it!

From puppy pads & cotton wool pads to help them with toileting, without their mum, to formula milk with something called a miracle nipple for each litter, to a seemingly endless supply of towels, litter and weaning food, the cost of hand rearing a litter can reach £100 very quickly and that’s without any veterinary care that they may need.

To support the work the team at Woodlands do with the care of kittens you can donate via their website www.woodlandsanimalsanctuary.org.uk or look at their Amazon wish list.  If you think you have room in your home & your heart for a little fur baby, then fill out an application form on their website and Alex will be in touch with you.  The kittens are available for rehoming once they are 9 weeks old, but you could choose your kitty from around 6 weeks.

With all these babies to look after, the charity is still also caring for the 20+ adult cats, who are also looking for their own loving forever home.  So, if you don’t fancy the chaos and mess a kitten can bring, why not take a look at the adult cats, who are just as deserving of a happy ever after as the babies are.
