Woodlands near Southport. Animal Charity seeks loving homes for deserving felines.

With the living with Covid plan now in full swing, summer on the horizon and fuel prices going crazy – Woodlands Animal Sanctuary have noticed a considerable drop in people approaching them to rehome a cat.  This is unfortunately happening whilst the number of applications they are receiving to admit cats is still high.  The upshot of this is that the animal rescue cannot take in any more cats, until the ones they have in already have been rehomed.

They currently have 12 cats available for rehoming, ranging in ages from a 1-year-old to 6 years. Some are in pairs but the majority are single cats just waiting for their chance of a happy ever after.  For example, 2-year-old Annie has been with them for nearly 3 months after she was found cold, starving and filthy at the beginning of the year.  She is a beautiful tabby & white cat, who is the most sweet natured girl who loves nothing more than a good fuss and a cuddle.  She does have a very slight heart murmur, which certainly does not cause her any problems at the moment, however, without a crystal ball the team are unable to say if this will change in the future.  The team are baffled as to why this beautiful girlie is still with them.

Rehoming a cat is a huge commitment; both in time and financially.  However, the gains are immeasurable – even if you think you’re not a cat person.  If you have the ability to care for another living being, whilst also giving them the freedom to live their own life, but with boundaries that are fair to everyone (much like a teenager!) a cat in your life may be just the tonic you need to fill the void you didn’t even know existed.  There is even a boarding cattery on the same site as Woodlands, where your cat can enjoy their own holiday while you enjoy yours!

All cats, available for rehoming from Woodlands have been meticulously health checked by their experienced vet, will be neutered, micro-chipped, up to date with worming and flea treatments and in the vast majority of cases will also come with one month's free insurance.  The donation the charity asks for, when rehoming a cat does not tend to cover even half of what Woodlands has spent on them since being admitted, but it does help to go towards covering that cost.  Whilst cats are not the most expensive pet you can have by a long shot, they do have ongoing costs to consider when deciding if rehoming a rescue is for you.  Regular flea and worming treatments are vital to support the health of your new fur baby, alongside an annual vaccination which protects them from the potentially lethal cat flu.  With of course, food, bedding and often cat litter too.

When you welcome a rescue animal into your home, you are not merely giving that animal a lifeline, but also the one after it, who is then able to take their place at the shelter and begin their journey to a loving forever home.  Woodlands, know all too well, how it can be to welcome a new addition into your family, and they are always at the end of the phone, should you have any questions or queries at all about your new fur baby.  Indeed, should it not work out, for any reason, Woodlands will take the cat back off you, to rehome again – should you really feel that you have made the wrong decision.
