Work has started to repair Southport Pier after accident.
Work has finally started on repairs to Southport Pier after it was hit by a lorry almost two weeks ago.
Contractors have erected scaffolding on the Marine Drive and taken up some of the decking to enable them to get at the damaged structure.
The Pier remains open as the works take place. A reduced land train service runs from half way to the end of the Pier.
Access to the Ocean Plaza is not affected. There is no date set for the works to finish.
Sefton Council short statement.
“Following an inspection on Monday, September 13, repair and restoration works will continue to take place on the underside of Southport Pier.
“This means Marine Drive will remain closed until works are completed. While we apologise for any delays these essential works may cause, the safety of our pedestrians and road users remains paramount.”
