Work has started to repair Southport Pier. Marine Drive remains closed

Work has started to repair Southport Pier after a lorry crashed into it on Tuesday afternoon. Access along the Pier is still possible for people who want to go for a walk and a drink at the Pavillion.

Some media outlets reported yesterday that the Marine Drive was partially   open to traffic. This was incorrect and the road remains closed in both directions from the Pier to the roundabout at the beach entrance.

It is not known how long the Marine Drive will be closed for.
