You Won't Believe How Many Volunteers There Are in Southport - Damien Moore MP Thanks Them All!

MP Damien Moore

Damien Moore MP thanks local charity volunteers during Volunteers' Week 2023.

Local Member of Parliament, Damien Moore, has praised the work of the 5,113 volunteers in Southport and is encouraging others to consider volunteering their time to help their local community.

The MP’s comments come as Volunteers’ Week gets underway. Volunteers’ Week is the annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering in their communities.

Charity Commission data highlights that there are 5,113 volunteers working in the constituency of Southport, and many more throughout the country. The work of volunteers is vital in allowing local charities to make a difference in their community, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole.

Volunteers are at the heart of the charity sector, offering their time and energy to help those in need. This includes charity trustees—most of whom are volunteers. The Charity Commission offers a wide array of guidance and support to help trustees run their charities well so they can improve lives and strengthen society.

Damien Moore, Member of Parliament for Southport, said:

“I have been privileged to visit many outstanding charities in Southport, all of which rely on the dedication of volunteers.

“I want to thank all those who are giving up their time to support our local charities and congratulate them on everything they are doing to help these great organisations thrive. “I would encourage all those who want to give back to their community to volunteer with a local charity.”

Orlando Fraser KC, Chair of the Charity Commission, said:

“Amidst tightening economic pressures, Volunteers’ Week reminds us that there is more we can give to charity than just money.

“I would like to extend the Charity Commission’s gratitude to volunteers in Southport, who give their time to improve their community, strengthen society and bring people together.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of charity, and it is right that they are celebrated and commended for their contribution to our nations.”
