A man has been issued with a further two-year banning order following theft from a Southport supermarket.

On 27 December it was reported that a man stole more than £150 worth of confectionery from Sainsbury’s on Bisham Road, which breached a Criminal Behaviour Order not to enter the store.

Yesterday (Wednesday 13 May) Zac Cartwright, 34 years, of Balliol Road in Bootle, pleaded guilty to the theft and was issued with another banning order at Sefton Magistrates Court.

The two-year order prohibits him entering Chapel Street, any Sainsburys store in PR8 and PR9 postcodes, Tesco on Station Road in Ainsdale, and not to enter any shop or store once a banning notice is issued.

Cartwright is also banned from entering the following areas in Southport after a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order was issued on 15 December last year – Eastbank Street, Chapel Street and Central Twelve Retail Park.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Graham Fisher said: “Sadly Cartwright thought he could continue thieving from shops and get away with it.

“Now the courts have issued him with another banning order which has extended the areas he cannot enter, and if he breaches the conditions of this order then please report this to us.”

Inspector Fisher added: “Retail crime and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order are serious crimes. Thefts from businesses is not a victimless crime as the cost incurred is passed on to the consumer, so it can have a huge impact on the community.

"We remain committed to supporting local communities, and retailers, by taking firm action against offenders and preventing these crimes in the first place.”
