Southport remembers Alice, Bebe and Elsie two years on. Video
Hundreds gathered outside Southport Town Hall to remember Alice da Silva Aguiar, Bebe King and Elsie Dot Stancombe, two years after they were killed during a children’s dance event. A three-minute silence was observed across Southport at 3pm, followed by applause, with flags on public buildings lowered to half-mast.

Council launches consultation on Sefton’s next Local Plan
Sefton Council has opened the first consultation on a Local Plan intended to guide development across the Borough from 2029 to 2044. Residents can comment on priorities including homes, transport, schools, health services, parks, nature, regeneration and environmental protection until midnight on 18 September 2026.

Rail industry launches campaign after more than 19,000 trespass incidents
The rail industry has launched a new safety campaign after more than 19,000 trespass incidents were recorded in 2024/25, causing 19 accidental deaths and 85 serious injuries. The campaign highlights dangers including electrified rails and overhead wires, and urges people to stay off tracks and report trespassing.

Sefton councillors seek answers over Marine Lake Events Centre costs
Opposition Sefton councillors are using Freedom of Information requests to seek further details about the Marine Lake Events Centre’s reported cost increase from £72 million to at least £106 million. They say access to key documents has been restricted and are questioning borrowing costs, procurement decisions and project delays.
