01 Emergency ServicesFour-year-old boy taken to hospital after car hits him on Southport Promenade
Emergency services attended Southport Promenade at about 4.55pm on Monday after a four-year-old boy was struck by a car. An air ambulance landed at nearby King’s Gardens, and the child was taken to hospital as a precaution. Merseyside Police said no further information about his condition has been released.

02 HealthNearly 90,000 receive first dose in NHS MenB campaign
An NHS meningitis B vaccination campaign has delivered 89,261 first doses in England, with more than 135,000 further bookings received. Eligible young people in Southport and the Liverpool City Region can attend participating pharmacies. Two doses are required at least 28 days apart, with appointments still available for those who qualify.

Provisional Met Office figures show England and Wales had their driest July on record, while southern England experienced its driest calendar month since records began. The UK, England and Wales also recorded their sunniest July on record. Prolonged dryness and heat have contributed to drought conditions across Wales and much of England.

04 SportSouthport start 2026-27 campaign with first visit to Hebburn Town
Southport FC open their 2026-27 Enterprise National League North campaign away at newly promoted Hebburn Town on Saturday, August 8, with a 3pm kick-off. Two full coaches are expected to travel, while tickets can be bought in advance or at the turnstiles. The starting line-up will be confirmed at 2pm.
