01 EducationSefton Council welcomes new school uniform affordability laws
New regulations will limit the number of branded school uniform items schools can require, with secondary schools permitted a fourth item if it is a tie. Sefton Council says the changes will support efforts to reduce classroom poverty, alongside pre-loved uniform schemes and its Poverty Proofing the School Day programme.

02 Emergency Services24-year-old rider dies following Queensway Tunnel crash
Korben Bell, a 24-year-old Cheshire-area resident, died in hospital after being injured in a one-vehicle collision involving a Sur-ron bike inside the Queensway Tunnel on 11 August. Merseyside Police says its investigation continues and is appealing for anyone who saw the bike or collision to come forward.

03 CouncilAnimal welfare groups back Sefton’s decision to close aviary
Sefton Council says animal welfare organisations, including PETA and the Born Free Foundation, support closing Botanic Gardens Aviary and rehoming its birds. The council says previous attempts to identify a suitable organisation to manage the facility were unsuccessful, while future plans will focus on developing the site as a nature space.

04 Emergency ServicesMore than half of Merseyside grass and rubbish fires were deliberate during school holidays
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended 418 grass and rubbish fires between 20 July and 9 August, including 240 recorded as deliberate. The service is urging people not to light fires in open spaces, dispose of cigarettes safely, take rubbish home and report fires or suspicious behaviour immediately.
