01 CrimeLancashire prison to gain 240 extra places
HMP Lancaster Farms is set to increase capacity from 584 to 824 places through four new houseblocks, with construction due to finish by year-end. The expansion will include reinforced windows, a new workshop for prisoner training and skills, and forms part of wider plans to add 14,000 prison spaces by 2031.

02 TransportMaritime Corridor Phase 2 works set to begin on Bridle Road
Phase 2 of the Maritime Corridor scheme is expected to begin next week on Bridle Road, including junction improvements and a new walking and cycling route. Works are planned for around 12 months. A temporary one-way system will operate between Netherton Way and Park Lane, while the 58 bus will be affected.

03 SportSouthport beaten 2-0 at Worksop Town after second-half goals
Southport lost 2-0 away to Worksop Town on September 12, with both goals arriving after half-time. Ryan Viggers opened the scoring three minutes into the second half before Vaughan Redford doubled the lead. 04 TransportBereaved military families offered free rail travel for Remembrance weekend
One next of kin of a service person who died while serving will be able to travel free on National Rail services for Remembrance events on November 7 and 8. Eligible relatives must apply through the Defence Medical Welfare Service by October 16, helping families attend commemorations without travel costs becoming a barrier.
