01 CrimeSouthport woman jailed for leading £4.3m counterfeit goods operation
Megan Carney-Borrowman has been jailed for four years and three months after leading a counterfeit designer goods operation whose accounts received more than £4.3 million. Three others received suspended sentences or community orders. The investigation also uncovered benefit fraud involving approximately £73,000 and an insurance claim involving a recovered Rolex watch.

02 EnvironmentMartin Mere records 2,433 pink-footed geese in first dawn count
WWT Martin Mere’s reserve team counted 2,433 pink-footed geese during its first dawn count on 1 October, following large arrivals over the previous two days. The geese have travelled from Iceland, and visitors can see them alongside other migrants during the North West Bird Watching Festival on 17 and 18 October.

03 CrimeBarbers’ door smashed in Wesley Street, Southport
Glass in the door of a Wesley Street barbers was smashed during the early hours of Friday, 2 October. A rock believed to have been used in the attack remained outside. Merseyside Police are asking anyone with information to report it through 101 or the force’s online reporting service.

04 CrimeSouthport man charged over theft of gold chain, ring and cash
Peter Warren Wright, 54, of Albert Road, Southport, has been charged with theft from a person and theft from a house. The charge follows a report that a gold chain, £400 in cash and a gold engagement ring were taken from a property. He was remanded in custody and is due at Liverpool Crown Court on 29 October.
